National Supervision and Inspection Center for Explosion Protection and Safety of Instrumentation (NEPSI) is: international testing laboratory and certification body accredited by IECEx Scheme; Shanghai Inspection and Testing Center of Electrical Equipment for use in Explosive Atmospheres for National Work Safety authorized by China State Administration of Work Safety (with qualification of Class A);Explosion-proof Instruments Workstation of Explosion-proof Electrical Equipment Division of National Industrial Product Production License Office approved by AQSIQ.

The testing laboratory of NEPSI was initially set up in 1979, and brought into service in 1985. It was in January 1986 that the lab was officially approved and named as "National Supervision and Inspection Center for Explosion Protection and Safety of Instrumentation".

NEPSI has made considerable efforts to promote international exchange and cooperation. It has hosted more than ten international technical forums on explosion protection technology since 1991.

2002, NEPSI hosted the 1st International Industrial Explosion Protection Product Exhibition in China.

2006, NEPSI organized annual conference of IECEx certification system in Shanghai.

NEPSI has completed a great lot of basic scientific research on explosion protection and national key technology among which one was granted the first, two were granted second and five were grated third grade “Scientific and Technical Progress Awards”. Besides, two of the studies won third grade “National Safety in Production Scientific Research Achievement Prize”. Otherwise, NEPSI has published professional books such as “Instrument Intrinsic Safety – Explosion Protection Technology” and more than 50 papers.
